+/- 7 Days, Observe tropical biodiversity in Madidi National Park and go on a river safari in the Yacuma Wildlife Preserve

This seven-day adventure starts in the city of La Paz with a cable car tour that highlights some of the ways the 3700 meters above sea level city is connected to the tropical lowlands. Later we head up to El Alto for a short flight to the town of Rurrenabaque, the gateway to Bolivia's Amazon region. From "Rurre" we set off by boat toward Madidi National Park. You'll take hikes in the rainforest, visit a community and have a chance to chat with community members, learning about their traditions and culture. Next, we head into the vast Beni Pampas region, notable for its flooded grasslands and riverine forests, where wildlife congregates for shelter and food. We will explore the Pampas by boat and on foot and spend our nights in eco-lodges along the rivers. Sound like fun? Join us on this fascinating adventure around one of the most incredible landscapes in Bolivia.

Rurrenabaque and Madidi National Park

It's off to the rainforest today and you'll fly from the chilly highlands of La Paz to the heart of Bolivia's Amazon rainforest. We land in Rurrenabaque and after a quick stop for a briefing and any last-minute preparations, we'll board our canoe. We'll head to the Beni and Tuichi Rivers and into Madidi National Park, one of the planet's most biologically diverse places.

We'll arrive at our eco-lodge by noon and meet our hosts from the Tacana Indigenous People who are members of a community-based tourism project. After a delicious lunch and refreshing tropical juice, we'll go into the rainforest. The focus of our walk will be to learn about all the plants of the rainforest that the Tacana people use in their communities—from making medicine to building materials and foods.

As the sun begins to go down, we might get lucky and catch a glimpse of peccaries, and local troops of monkeys.

We'll eat dinner at the lodge. Afterward, you have the rest of the evening to relax.

Madidi National Park

Breakfast is at 7:00 am today. Then we head off to the Cliff of the Macaws, one of the best places in Madidi National Park to watch macaws, parrots and other birds. The walk is moderately difficult and we will hike beneath 295-395 feet (90-120 meter) tall trees and learn more about their uses.
At the Cliff of the Macaws, you can watch the birds and enjoy the breath-taking view of the Amazon Basin, and its many rivers. Afterwards, we will go to the River Tuichi, where we will build a log raft (traditional transport of the Amazonian Peoples) and go downstream for about 2-hours until we reach our eco-lodge.

Not sure about hiking in the rainforest? Don't worry, we will have a boat nearby for security, for our backpacks, and for people who prefer not to participate in this activity.
After lunch, you can choose to rest or participate in an activity. For example, you may want to make traditional handicrafts or go fishing.

The forests that line the waterways of the Pampas are an important habitat for hundreds of species of animals, including caimans, capybaras, turtles, many bird species, and the beautiful, pink river dolphins that live in this wonderful place.
We'll be back at our lodge by nightfall and after dinner, the hammocks are yours to enjoy.
