In the morning, a transfer will take us from your hotel to the beginning of the trail at Hostería El Pilar, 17 kilometers from the city.
The self-guided tour starts in a dense Lengas forest that protects us from the winds coming from the Ice Field (Continental Ice). From the beginning we have the possibility to see several glaciers such as the Marconi, the Tram, the Cagliero and in the distance, towards Lago del Desierto, the Vespignani.
We go up to the Piedras Blancas Glacier Lookout and continue to the Poincenot camp from where we can already see needles like the “S”, Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz and Guillaumet.
Leaving the Poincenot camp behind, we begin the most demanding kilometer of the trail to Laguna de los Tres, where we will climb 400 meters. It will be a kilometer of constant ascent through rocky and steep terrain, but once completed the views will be a great reward. We will contemplate the imposing Cerro Fitz Roy along with the peaks that accompany it, eternal snows and glaciers descending to Lagunas Sucia and De los Tres.
After a lunch break, we start our return passing through varied landscapes, accompanied by streams of crystalline waters and streams. We also visited the Lagoon of Capri, one of the favorite places for photography lovers, and then we arrived in El Chaltén. After a busy day, why not relax in the city with a tasty craft beer or chocolate with homemade waffles or cakes.
Approximate duration 8 to 9 hours.
Tip: We suggest using trekking poles and a small backpack, if you don't have it, you can rent it in various places in the city or directly with the guide who will offer explanations. We suggest taking a bottle of water that can be replaced during the tour with the freezing water from the glaciers that is clean and free! We also suggest taking extra snacks in your backpack, such as cereal bars, chocolates, fruits, and remember to never leave waste inside the park.
Important: Be prepared for the cold. The ideal is to wear layers-style sweaters, so that you can take them off as you walk and as your body warms up. A second skin, an intermediate coat and a raincoat complete the three layers. Wear Trekking shoes - or equivalent - that are comfortable. Take a pair of gloves, hats and whatever you think is convenient to protect yourself. Even with a cloudy day, never forget the sunscreen. In this area, the incidence of ultraviolet rays is greater than we are used to. Also protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses.
For those who prefer not to do day trekking there is the optional activity of taking the excursion to Lago do Desierto, here we make an amazing navigation through a lake of crystal clear waters and surrounded by incredible Patagonian landscapes overlooking Mount Fitz Roy. The physical demand for this tour is low.
